Brå has examined the development of crime in Sweden from 2006 to 2024 and has concluded that the proportion of people exposed to crime has decreased overall.

During the 2020s, crimes directed against individuals, such as assault, robbery and sexual crimes, have decreased after an increase in the 2010s.

Property crimes, such as burglary, bicycle and car thefts, are also decreasing. The number of car thefts has decreased by a full 85 percent between 2006 and 2024.

"We see the decrease in exposure to serious assault mainly among men, despite the fact that serious violence involving knives and firearms increased during the 2010s," says Bror Schylander, investigator at Brå.

Fraud has increased significantly during the measurement period.
