In his minute-long speech, Fetterman introduced his fellow Pennsylvanian, Republican Dave McCormick, whom he called a "distinguished American."
Fetterman also suggested, without naming names, that some Democrats are extremists.
I will always stand on the side of the United States. I will always distance myself from extremism, socialism, and the anti-American way of life.
He also said that he would work with US President Donald Trump to defend "the steel way of life", meaning the communities where many people make their living in the steel industry.
However, Fetterman has repeatedly said, most recently on Wednesday, that he does not intend to change parties.
