After they were spotted at a plantation near the burning forests in West Kalimantan province, authorities decided to evacuate the monkeys just as the flames approached their habitat, reports The Straits Times.
They are reported to have no visible injuries, but veterinarians fear they may have suffered smoke inhalation. So far, nine orangutans have been evacuated from the fires in the area over the past month.
The vast island nation has been battling several fires for weeks that have spread extensive smog across Borneo and Sumatra - and air pollution all the way to neighbouring countries.
In one of the rescue operations, water bombers were deployed on Saturday to stop the flames from spreading to the country's future new capital, Nusantara.
