Felix Baumgartner Dies in Paramotor Accident in Italy

The Austrian extreme sportsman Felix Baumgartner has died in an accident in Italy.

He was out and screen flying with a motor on his back, a so-called paramotor, when the accident occurred.

According to the rescue service, he suddenly felt unwell, lost control and crashed into a wooden structure by a hotel pool. Baumgartner died according to the rescue service on the spot.

A woman who was by the pool has been taken to hospital after being injured in connection with the crash.

The accident, which occurred just outside Porto Sant'Elpidio on the Adriatic coast, could have been worse. According to the rescue service, many people were by the pool at the time.

Baumgartner became world famous when he in 2012 broke several world records when he in a noted parachute jump from 39,000 meters altitude, in the stratosphere. He became known in Sweden in 2007 when he jumped parachute from Turning Torso in Malmö.

Baumgartner was 56 years old.
