National team coach Tony Gustavsson has been clear: Real Madrid’s new star Felicia Schröder will start as a striker, as a number nine, in Friday’s World Cup playoff away to Lithuania.
That is also where the 19-year-old has been at her best, and the position should help her end her goal drought for the national team after 11 international appearances.
"The number nine role is where I feel most comfortable. You don’t have to think too much. As a player, I shouldn’t think too much," says Schröder, who has made a successful start at Real Madrid following her high-profile transfer from Häcken.
She is still getting questions about her failure to score for the national team.
Of course, it would have been fun if I’d managed to get off the mark. I try to contribute as much as possible, whether it’s with goals, assists or lots of runs.
But of course, it would have been great fun. That’s what I’m striving for now.
She believes it is only a matter of "time" before she scores.
Friday’s match against Lithuania, the first leg of the opening round of the World Cup playoffs, kicks off at 6:05 p.m.
