The lawsuits, in addition to naming Walz, also named Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and addressed statements about the controversial ICE operation in the Minneapolis region at the beginning of the year.
According to Judge Patrick Schlitz, the lawsuits filed by the US Department of Justice are a form of "harassment and retaliation" against Minnesota politicians for not assisting the federal government as it desired.
Schlitz also noted that the attached documentation shows "extremely weak or even non-existent" links to violations of the law.
Walz challenged President Donald Trump in the 2024 election as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee alongside presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
