World number three Iga Swiatek won 2–0 in sets (6–1, 6–2) against Australian 17-year-old Emerson Jones and is through to the second round.
"I'm just happy to play on this court. I'm happy with how I played today, it was a good first match for sure," Swiatek said after the victory.
Four-time French Open champion Swiatek, along with world number one Aryna Sabalenka, is the favorite to win the tournament.
During the afternoon, world number two Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan also won her match against Slovenian Veronika Erjavec 2–0 in sets (6–2, 6–2).
On the men's side, unseeded Spaniard Pablo Carreño caused an upset when he knocked out 12th-seeded Czech Jiri Lehecka in three straight sets.
