One person died and at least 40 people were injured when two trains collided head-on near the Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru, AFP reports.

The deceased was a conductor on one of the trains, according to local authorities.

Machu Picchu is one of Latin America's largest tourist attractions, with an average of about 4,500 visitors a day.
