It is still unclear what caused the fire that broke out at 02 am on Tuesday.
A person was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but the person's life could not be saved.
The incident is being investigated as gross general destruction and the residence is cordoned off for technical examination.
No other apartments in the building are said to have suffered any extensive damage.
