Sales of clothing and shoes increased by two digits in June. Women's fashion and low-price goods sold the best.
After a slow sales month in May, the fashion trade took a big leap upwards in June, according to a press release from Swedish Trade. Shoe sales increased by 12.4 percent and clothing sales landed at 10.1 percent. It is the largest increase so far this year.
"After a tough year, we finally get pleasing figures from the country's fashion retailers. Dresses, sandals and shorts were some of the month's bestsellers," says Sofia Larsen, CEO of Swedish Trade.
Sales have primarily been driven by summer sales. A cold spring hampered trade in May, which became a weak sales month.
"For the retailers, it would of course have been even better to be able to sell the goods at full price. Driven trade erodes profitability," says Larsen.
