Romanian far-right member Gheorghe Piperea hopes to get the European Parliament to dismiss the European Commission and its President Ursula von der Leyen.

A request to hold a vote of no confidence has been submitted to the parliament, which may vote on it as early as July.

Piperea – who belongs to the party group ECR, where Swedish SD is also included – is among other things critical of the fact that von der Leyen has not wanted to disclose text messages and how she has handled the EU's large corona support.

The Commission and von der Leyen have also recently received sharp criticism from center and left groups due to withdrawn and rolled back climate measures. Piperea is still not expected to gather enough support for a dismissal. Among other things, he has been openly criticized by the leader of his own party group, the Italian Nicola Procaccini, who does not want to risk the entire commission being forced to resign.
