Little Faroe Islands delivered a giant bang in the World Championship qualifying round in football. The island nation defeated Czech Republic in Torshavn with 2–1.

Now, the Faroe Islands have suddenly got the chance to reach the World Championship.

Martin Agnarsson, who plays in the Danish second division with Aarhus Fremad, scored the winning goal in the 81st minute. Then, the Czech Republic had equalized the Faroe Islands' 1–0 lead just three minutes earlier.

The Faroe Islands are only ranked 136th in the world, while the Czech Republic is almost 100 places ahead – in 39th place.

The Faroe Islands are third in the World Championship qualifying group, one point behind second-placed Czech Republic and four points behind leaders Croatia. The Faroe Islands have one match left to play, away against Croatia, while the Czech Republic will host bottom-placed Gibraltar in their final match. The Croats will meet Montenegro in the conclusion of the World Championship qualifying.

Corrected: In an earlier version of the text, there were two inaccuracies, partly about Agnarsson's club affiliation, partly about the World Championship qualifying group's bottom team.
