The jury's citation highlights Farnaz Arbabi's approach to reinterpreting a play in need of updating.

"With a bold take on Shakespeare's misogynistic play, director Farnaz Arbabi opens our eyes and ears to both contemporary jargon and old patriarchal violence," writes SvD's jury.

The production is being staged at Dramaten in Stockholm, with Sara Shirpey as Katarina. Farnaz Arbabi is also the artistic director of Unga Klara in Stockholm.

The Thalia Prize has been awarded since 1951 "as a thank you for significant contributions in connection with theatrical performances during the past year".
