The fires in the Gironde department in southwestern France have devoured thousands of hectares and, despite firefighting efforts being carried out day and night for several days, the spread continues.
In addition to firefighters, the military and firefighting aircraft, help is also coming from other sources. In groups on social media, people are opening their homes to evacuees. Videos are also being circulated showing roads filled with tractors towing water tanks on trailers.
One of the clips has the caption: “Bordeaux, we are coming!” Another reads: “Farmers don’t just provide for France; they are a solidarity army that protects the country’s territories.”
