After six straight losses, Färjestad took a long-awaited victory in the SHL on Saturday. The team from Karlstad won 7–0 against Brynäs at home. "I think it was a well-executed game," the home team's new head coach Cam Abbott said to TV4 Play after the game.

Earlier in January, Jörgen Jönsson was fired by Färjestad. Cam Abbott took over as head coach, but lost his first game behind the Färjestad bench, on the road against HV71.

In Abbott's second match, his first at home, things went significantly better.

Then Färjestad won a crushing 7–0 over Brynäs, with goals from seven different scorers.

"We are very happy. I think we are doing what Cam wants us to do today," said Viktor Lodin.

The victory was Abbott's first with Färjestad.

"I'm just grateful to be here, with these guys. The organization has welcomed me in a great and professional way," Abbott said.

The straw in the ointment for Färjestad was that both Joel Kellman and Linus Johansson left the game injured. Brynäs also suffered a setback - Oskar Lindblom left the ice after taking a puck to the face.

Färjestad is now in eighth place in the SHL standings, five points ahead of Luleå in sixth place - a position that means a quarter-final in the playoffs.

Brynäs is in tenth place.
