The Karlstad team was seen by many as gold favorites before the season, but were eliminated from the playoffs in the quarterfinals on Monday.
The 44-year-old coach came to FBK during the 2021-22 season and led the club directly to a tenth SM gold.

According to several media outlets, Mitell's replacement will be a real club legend. Jörgen Jönsson, who has five SM golds as a player in the club and his jersey number retired, appears to be returning to Karlstad after a coaching stint in Växjö. It will not be the first time he stands on Färjestad's coaching bench, as after his playing career, the 52-year-old took on a role as assistant coach and later assistant sports manager in the club.
For Tomas Mitell, who has previously been a coach in Chicago Blackhawks in NHL, everything now points to Switzerland waiting after his stint in Karlstad.
