In February this year, Falsterbo Horse Show announced that the competition would change its name to Al Shira’aa Falsterbo Horse Show, after entering into a new sponsorship agreement with Al Shira’aa Stables.
The decision received strong criticism, and several sponsors and exhibitors dropped out of the competition.
A month later, the news came that the collaboration would end, and the name change would be scrapped.
On July 5, it's time for this year's edition of Falsterbo Horse Show. Jana Wannius, the competition's chairman, feels more stressed than usual.
A normal year I would not have been a bit stressed. But this year the situation is different with everything that has been. In some way, it's positive that Falsterbo has become an institution that people care about, but it all escalated into a negative campaign, says Wannius to DN.
Wannius believes that this year's audience figures may be affected by the sponsorship decision, even though it was withdrawn.
But he has a plan to regain the trust of the doubters.
By continuing to make really good competitions. That's the only thing we can do. And I hope that those who were critical still come here. Because it will be just like usual, says Wannius to the magazine.
Several major Swedish stars will participate in the competition in Skåne on July 5-13. Malin Baryard-Johnsson, Peder Fredricson, Henrik von Eckermann and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson will participate.
