After series winners IFK Norrköping beat third-placed Östersund 3–0 earlier on Saturday, Falkenberg had the chance to secure a place in the 2027 Allsvenskan at home against Sandviken.
They did, but it was a close call.
It wasn't until the 81st minute that centre-back Alexander Salo headed in the decisive goal to make it 2–1, and the champagne could be uncorked at Falcon Alkoholfri Arena.
“We're playing a pretty poor second half and being pushed back. When we get the corner, I think, if there's ever a time I'm going to take the chance, it's now,” says Salo.
As recently as last year, Falkenberg were back in the Superettan after a three-year spell in the country's third tier.
“I can't find the words. We're coming from behind - we played in Division 1 two years ago, and now we've managed to get promoted to the Allsvenskan,” says Alexander Salo.
Falkenberg first played in the Allsvenskan in 2014, and next year will be the club's sixth season in the top flight.
