Infantino took over as president of FIFA, the International Football Association Board, in 2016 after Sepp Blatter was forced out of the position.
According to FIFA's statutes, a president can serve three four-year terms, for a total of 12 years. Infantino has decided that his first three-year term will not count and that he can be re-elected for a third time next year.
FairSquare, which works on human rights issues in sport, believes that the three-year term should count and that FIFA should stop Infantino's candidacy.
"It would constitute his fourth term and thus violate FIFA's statutes," writes FairSquare.
