"It is burning so heavily that smoke is pouring out onto the E65 and impairing visibility for road users," says police spokesperson Sara Andersson.
Several police cars have driven onto the road with blue lights flashing to warn road users.
A major public notice (VMA) has been issued for central Malmö. People in the area are advised to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation.
The alarm about the fire in Elisedal was raised at 5:30 p.m.
"We have a fire inside the premises that is difficult to extinguish. Debris has fallen on the fire and there is a lot of smoke," says Mattias Sköld, duty officer for the rescue services, in the evening.
At that time, there were ten fire engines from seven stations at the scene.
