The Spanish F1 driver who drives for Williams got stomach problems and had to visit a doctor before Sunday's Grand Prix race in Japan.
Something that cost him dearly.
As a result of the doctor's visit, he missed the Japanese national anthem before the race – which is a requirement for all drivers to attend.
The International Automobile Federation (Fia) is now fining the Spaniard 20,000 euros, equivalent to 221,000 kronor, for the rule breach.
Half of the fine is conditional, which means that Sainz avoids paying that part if he doesn't break the same rule again next year.
Furthermore, Fia believes that the 30-year-old should have reported his stomach problems before the national anthem.
"Despite this, it is highly prioritized to show respect for the national anthem and all parties must take into account all eventualities in their planning to be in the right place and at the right time during the national anthem", they write.
Sainz finished in a modest 14th place in Sunday's race. The reigning World Champion Max Verstappen won ahead of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
