Patients have received incorrect diagnoses at the eye clinic at Halland Hospital on about 20 occasions. In some cases, correct treatment was delayed, which has entailed a risk of serious harm.

The patients have undergone unnecessary examinations and treatments, such as injections in the eye and tissue sampling, but no one is deemed to have suffered serious harm, the hospital writes in a press release. The incident is being reported to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate.

The doctor behind the incorrect diagnoses is an experienced specialist, but was newly employed at the hospital. The hospital has taken measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
