Dental care providers in rural municipalities will receive additional government compensation of 20 percent next year for treatments within the dental care reform for the elderly.

The reform, which comes into effect on January 1, means that the state will subsidize the costs of, for example, root canals and extractions by 90 percent for those over the age of 67. At the same time, a price cap, a reference price, will be set for such treatments.

To increase access to dental care in rural municipalities, the government has now decided to introduce a municipality-specific supplement within the framework of the reform.

This plays a major role for dental care providers, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD).

The surcharge will be 20 percent on the reference price for dental care providers in 149 rural municipalities, such as Arvidsjaur, Mönsterås and Norrtälje.

For 116 mixed municipalities, such as Mariestad and Trelleborg, the addition will be 10 percent.
