A former high-ranking official in Region Västerbotten is being prosecuted for their role in a bribery scandal linked to the management of the region's pension funds, local media reports.
The region has suffered serious damage from the crimes, says prosecutor Arne Fors to SVT News Västerbotten.
According to the prosecutor, the region has lost millions in the scandal.
It's about 19 million that the region would have received in discounts for its large fund holdings that ended up on other bank accounts, he says to SVT.
The crimes are said to have been committed in 2022 and 2023.
The former official is being prosecuted for gross bribery and gross disloyalty to the principal. Four other individuals are also being prosecuted in the scandal.
All five defendants deny any wrongdoing.
