The man was a trustee and was entitled to compensation for loss of income from both the city and the region when he performed his duties, but according to the indictment, he applied for and received compensation on 180 occasions when he had no loss of income.

In some cases, he had a loss of income, but not as much as he had applied for.

”The man has deceived representatives of both Västerås city and Region Västmanland and in this way received large sums in compensation that he was not entitled to. I consider the crimes to be serious as they have been systematic and of significant value”, says senior prosecutor Frieda Gummesson in a press release.

The crime is also of a particularly dangerous nature, as it "undermines the inhabitants' trust in the political system", according to Gummesson.

The man denies the crime.
