Over 450 Russian drones and 30 rockets were used in tonight's attack, which was directed against the Ukrainian energy supply, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyj in a post on X.
What is described by Ukraine's energy minister as a "massive attack” against the energy grid comes the day after Zelenskyj accused Moscow of creating ”chaos” with just such attacks, reports the news agency AFP.
Explosions in Kyiv
Sounds of drones and rocket impacts have been heard during the night in different parts of the capital Kyiv, report several media outlets. The explosions were heard after midnight local time.
”There is an attack with ballistic rockets. The rockets are being fired one by one, the air defense is on alert”, said Timur Tkatjenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, during the night, according to Kyiv Independent.
According to Kyiv's mayor Vitalij Klytjko, several areas in the city lost electricity in connection with the attacks.
"There are also problems with the water supply”, says Klytjko on Telegram.
Power outages in several regions
From nine other regions in the country, power outages are reported, according to the Ukrainian energy department, writes AFP. The affected regions are mainly located in the central and eastern parts of the country.
Russian attacks have been carried out, among other places, in the Zaporizjzja region, where a child has been killed.
”Tragic news. A seven-year-old boy who was injured in a Russian attack during the night has died at the hospital”, says the head of the region's military administration, Ivan Fedorov, on Telegram.
In total, more than 20 people are said to have been injured in the attacks, according to Zelenskyj.
