Several Russian missile attacks have targeted the metropolitan area, and several explosions were heard during the night. Russia sent 115 drones and is believed to have fired more than 20 missiles.
At least 17 people have been killed in the attacks, which targeted, among other places, central Kyiv and Butja, just outside the capital, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"The Kyiv region was once again hit by one of the most tragic enemy attacks to date. Unfortunately, the Russian attack cost 14 civilian lives," Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv region's military administration, wrote on Telegram.
Evacuating families with children
According to the emergency services, at least 30 people have been injured. Residential buildings and warehouses have been hit in the attacks.
Escalated Russian attacks near the front line in Donetsk forced hundreds of families with children in the city of Kramatorsk to evacuate on Wednesday.
"The security situation is deteriorating, it is unacceptable to leave children under the constant threat of Russian attacks," said Vadym Filashkin, governor of the Donetsk region, AFP writes.
In last night's attack, Ukraine's defences failed to shoot down a single Russian missile, according to a report from the Ukrainian Air Force.
Zelenskyy writes on Telegram that the number of anti-aircraft missiles in stock so far this year "has decreased to a third compared with 2025."
Low stock
Ten people were killed in Russian attacks on Kyiv and its suburbs on Saturday. In recent months, Ukraine has called on its allies to supply more US-made Patriot missiles to protect its airspace against Russian attacks. Ukraine has also repeatedly asked the US for more Patriot systems.
"Air defense against ballistic missiles could have saved those who were killed today," Zelenskyy writes on X.
At the same time, it is reported that at least one more warehouse belonging to the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries in Aleksin, south of Moscow, was attacked on Wednesday night. Ukraine has escalated its drone attacks on targets in Russia.
