Around 02.30, the police rushed to a villa area in the Björkalund area of Norrköping.
We initially received it as a burglary alarm, and then we received additional calls that an explosion had occurred. When we arrived, we could confirm that something had detonated in connection with the entrance to the residence, resulting in material damage to the door and facade, says Viktor Bergman, commander at the police's regional command center.
There were no personal injuries and we have been in contact with the homeowner.
The police have set up cordons in the area and the bomb squad has worked on the site during the night.
Two explosions in four hours
The blast in Norrköping was the second within a few hours in Östergötland. Around 23.00 on Wednesday evening, an explosion occurred in Skäggetorp in Linköping.
This concerned the door to an apartment building.
The bomb squad had just finished when Norrköping came in, says Viktor Bergman.
We have not been able to determine exactly what detonated, but it concerned an apartment building. There was also material damage to the property.
”Investigating a connection”
By 04.00, the police had not found any link between the two incidents.
We are trying to determine if they are related to ongoing conflicts and if they are connected to each other. It's a bit early to say, but it's clear that we are investigating a connection when two incidents occur in such close proximity, says Viktor Bergman.
Both explosions are classified as general destruction. The one in Norrköping is also classified as attempted murder and gross unlawful threat, since it was directed at a single residence. No one has been arrested for the incidents.
