Early on Saturday morning, two explosions occurred in The Hague, Netherlands. Several apartments were destroyed when a multi-family house was partially demolished.
The exact number of people who may be buried in the rubble is unclear, but according to the rescue service, around 20 people are missing. Four deaths have been confirmed.
In the afternoon, Mayor Jan van Zanen said, according to the newspaper De Telegraaf, that he "fears the worst". However, a glimmer of hope emerged in the early evening when a person was dug out alive. This person has been taken to hospital, reports The Hague Fire Department.
The cause of the two explosions is still unknown.
We expect a long investigation. Today, we will continue searching (for survivors) until late in the evening, said Jan van Zanen.
