An explosion has occurred in a coal mine in the region of Asturias in northwestern Spain, reports Spanish media.
According to the public service company RTVE, at least five people have died.
About an hour after the explosion, all those who were trapped in the mine at the time of the explosion had been rescued. Four of them are reported to be seriously injured, most with burns.
The accident occurred when a machine exploded, writes the newspaper El Mundo.
The country's prime minister, Pedro Sánchez, sends condolences to the affected and thanks the rescue service via X.
