The alarm about a powerful explosion at an apartment building in Johanneshov in southern Stockholm came at 04:22 on Saturday morning. The shockwave blew out a large number of windows. Two people were lightly injured but did not require hospital care.

It's about some kind of shrapnel injuries. They have been bandaged, says police spokesperson Anna Westberg.

The material damage is described as extensive.

It's mainly a gate that's damaged, but also an adjacent gate that's damaged in some way, and also several shattered windows on nearby buildings.

A resident of a nearby house describes the devastation:

It looks like a war zone. There are shattered windows everywhere, says the person to P4 Stockholm.

The national bomb squad is on site during the morning to secure the area, followed by a technical investigation. Meanwhile, cameras in the area are being checked.

Two in a short time

The incident is classified as reckless endangerment. No one has been arrested.

The rescue service has not ordered any evacuation, but a nearby local is being kept open for those who want.

Forty-five minutes earlier, at 03.36, the police were alerted about an explosion in a row house area in Huddinge, about a mile southeast of the explosion in Johanneshov.

According to the police, a windowpane was shattered. No one was injured in connection with the incident, which is classified as gross vandalism.

It's about some kind of smaller explosion, says Westberg.

High numbers

A third detonation occurred just before 00.30 at a garage in a villa area in Västerås. The incident is being investigated as reckless endangerment and a violation of the law on explosive materials.

Last year ended with a large number of bombings and the year has started in the same way.

According to the police, there were 20 completed explosions in December – the highest number in a single month since November 2019 (22).

During the first two weeks of the year, the police counted 11 explosions and 25 secured hazardous objects. Since then, there have been five more explosions, including tonight's, according to TT's information.
