The alarm about a powerful explosion at an apartment building in Johanneshov in southern Stockholm came at 04.22 on Saturday morning. The shockwave blew out a large number of windows. Two people were lightly injured but did not require hospital care.
It's about some kind of superficial injuries. They have been bandaged, says police spokesperson Anna Westberg.
The material damage is described as extensive.
It's mainly a door that's damaged, but also an adjacent door that's damaged in some way and also several shattered windows on nearby buildings.
The national bomb squad will secure the site during the morning and then a technical investigation will follow. Meanwhile, cameras in the area are being reviewed.
Two in a short time
The incident is classified as reckless endangerment. No one has been arrested. A large police operation is underway and the site has been cordoned off for a technical investigation.
The rescue service has not ordered any evacuation, but a nearby local is being kept open for those who want.
About 45 minutes earlier, the police were alerted to an explosion in a row house area in Huddinge, about a mile southeast of the explosion in Johanneshov.
According to the police, a windowpane was shattered. No one was injured in connection with the incident, which is classified as gross vandalism.
It's about some kind of smaller explosion, says Westberg.
High numbers
A third detonation occurred just before 00.30 at a garage in a villa area in Västerås. The incident is being investigated as reckless endangerment and a violation of the law on explosive materials.
Last year ended with a large number of explosions and the year has started in the same way.
According to the police, there were 20 completed explosions in December – the highest number in a single month since November 2019 (22).
During the first two weeks of the year, the police counted 11 explosions and 25 secured dangerous objects. Since then, there have been five more explosions, including tonight's, according to TT's information.
