Four Pakistani government officials and police officers have been killed in an explosion in northwestern Pakistan.

A senior government official along with another government official and two police officers were killed in the attack. A further eleven people were injured, according to police chief Waqas Rafiq in the city of Bajaur, near the border with Afghanistan.

The victims were traveling in a car in Bajaur when they were attacked, he adds. IS Khorasan took responsibility for the act a few hours later.

Just a few days ago, 16 soldiers were killed in the province, an attack that Pakistani Taliban claim to be behind. So far this year, around 300 people, most of them belonging to security forces, have been killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan.

Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in 2021, violent attacks in the border areas have increased, and Pakistan blames the Taliban regime.
