The alarm was raised by police after several people heard a bang in the city on Saturday night.
"People called in from different places saying they heard a loud bang. About an hour later, at 1:20 a.m., we found a detonation site," says Peter Martin, the police officer on duty.
The explosion is not believed to have damaged any buildings or people, but a vehicle was damaged. The case is classified as public destruction and a violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods, the police write on their website .
Technicians and the national bomb disposal unit have worked at the site to check that there is nothing else that is dangerous, and there is not, says Peter Martin.
