Explosion in Madrid Leaves One Dead and 25 Injured

An explosion suspected to have been caused by a gas leak in a building in Madrid, has killed one person and injured 25, reports the rescue service in Spain's capital.

Rescue workers found the remains of a man during a search and rescue operation with dogs, according to the authorities.

Firefighters suspect that the explosion, which shook the Puente de Vallecas neighborhood, was caused by a gas leak, reports the Spanish news agency EFE. The police are investigating the incident.

Fire chief Javier Romero says that firefighters pulled out four people from the rubble after the explosion occurred at 3 pm on Saturday on the ground floor of a three-story building. He says that the explosion damaged a café, a shop and other properties.
