The explosion was "probably caused by a buildup of gases," regional governor Jorge Emilio Rey wrote on X.
Two more people have been evacuated from the mine. It was initially reported that 14 people were trapped, but local authorities later revised the figure down to 12.
Mining accidents in Colombia are usually caused by poor ventilation, and the area where Monday's accident occurred is also home to illegal mines without adequate safety measures.
