The explosion was “probably caused by an accumulation of gases,” regional governor Jorge Emilio Rey wrote on X after the incident.
Twelve miners were previously reported to be trapped in the mine after two people were evacuated.
Mining accidents in Colombia are usually caused by poor ventilation, and the area where Monday's accident occurred is also home to illegal mines without adequate safety measures.
