The police were alerted to an explosion in the Tynnered area in western Gothenburg late Thursday evening, several media outlets reported. A car has caught fire.

"It is likely that there has been some form of detonation," Johan Josarp, duty officer at the police, tells SVT News, adding that it is not known whether it happened before or after the car started to burn.

No one was injured in the incident, and only the car was damaged, according to police. The alarm about the incident came in at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday.

A report of public danger and a report under the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods have been filed. So far, no one has been arrested.

"We have cordoned off the area and residents in the immediate vicinity are being housed," Josarp tells Göteborgs-Posten.
