The Government and The Sweden Democrats propose in the upcoming budget that the right to temporary parental leave, so-called vab, be expanded. The opportunity will now apply in three new situations, including when parents need to attend school meetings due to the child's illness or disability. Another example is when parents need to be present in school to inform staff about the child's need for self-care, such as diabetes.
"That parents should be able to attend meetings with school and social services about their children's needs is both right and fair. An expanded right to vab makes it easier for parents to combine work life and family life", says Minister for the Elderly and Social Insurance Anna Tenje (The Moderate Party) in a press release
The initiative encompasses 74.1 million kronor in 2026.
