Together with his daughter, Caroline Lang, the former Minister of Culture and Education is being investigated for laundering proceeds from gross tax fraud linked to the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The 86-year-old has been influential in French politics and held ministerial positions several times during the 1980s, the 1990s and in the early 2000s for the country's Social Democratic Party.
