Hemming has acknowledged that he touched his genitals in front of the child, but claimed that he perceived the interest as mutual and that he did not realize the child's young age. He therefore means that the act was not criminal.
The district court, on the other hand, makes the assessment that Hemming must have realized that the child was under 15 years old and sentences him to a conditional sentence. He will also have to pay damages to the child.
When 52-year-old Hemming resigned from his position, he applied for so-called temporary pension of just over 77,000 kronor per month until retirement. Region Stockholm noted, however, that it was not relevant already then.
Gustav Hemming is prosecuted for a crime that all parties in Region Stockholm view very seriously. Therefore, he will not get a krona after the verdict, if he is convicted, said Andrea Törnestam (S), chairman of the remuneration committee, to SVT at the time.
Gustav Hemming was previously the leader of the Center Party in Region Stockholm and vice chairman of the regional board. He stepped down from his duties at the beginning of December after the party had been informed of the criminal suspicions and contacted the police.
