The number of surveyed stores that were subjected to theft, burglary, threats or violence amounted to 44 percent - the third-highest annual figure since Svensk Handel began the surveys in 2018.
"The fact that almost half of retail companies were exposed to some form of crime in 2025 is not only frightening. It is a clear sign that mass crime, despite all the warning signs, is not prioritized sufficiently. The fact that organized crime has managed to infiltrate the industry is largely due to this passivity," says Nina Jelver, Head of Security at Svensk Handel, in a press release.
In the grocery retail sector, 68 percent of those surveyed said they were victims of crime last year.
