This is shown by a new analysis from the Swedish Crime Prevention Council (Brå).
In total, there are 5,800 people sentenced to deportation, of whom 48 percent would have been allowed to leave Sweden in 2024. The highest proportion of those deported is among residents of Western European countries (82 percent), the lowest proportion among citizens of North African countries (32 percent).
During the analyzed period, the total proportion of deportees increased year by year, from around 20 percent at the beginning to around 60 percent at the end.
"This is partly related to strengthened international cooperation," says investigator Johanna Viberg in a press release.
