She and her son were evacuated from their home in Martignas sur Jalle, west of Bordeaux, on Friday evening.
We were told during a press conference that the municipality was on the evacuation list, so we left our home at nine o'clock. My husband didn't arrive until 1 a.m., she says when TT reaches her.
She went directly to her sister, who lives in the neighbouring municipality of Merignac, also west of Bordeaux.
“Extremely much smoke”
In total, more than 300,000 people have been evacuated in France and Spain in recent days alone. In the worst-hit department of Gironde, where Rabia Fontelas lives, an area the size of the entire island of Öland has burned.
Part of Merignac has also been evacuated, but we are just waiting. There is an extreme amount of smoke here and it is impossible to breathe.
Rabia Fontelas has no idea what condition her house is in, but the fire hasn't reached it yet.
So hopefully there are no major injuries.
Quentin Yonnet is visiting his parents in Bordeaux. Over the weekend, he visited a restaurant in Bordeaux with his girlfriend and a friend.
"It rained ash onto our plates," he says.
Black warning
Due to the rapidly advancing fire, the authorities have issued a warning at the highest level: black.
I didn't even know there was a warning at that level, says Quentin Yonnet.
A black warning means, among other things, that access to forest areas and beaches bordering forest areas is prohibited.
But Quentin Yonnet also says that there is a great desire to help, amid all the misery.
Many farmers are coming with their tractors and water tanks from other regions to help firefighters with the extinguishing work.
The problem is that there are fires in several other places in the country as well.
