From today, Monday, those exposed to violence in close relationships, honor-related violence, prostitution, and human trafficking can call the phone number 116 016 to receive support and assistance. The number is the same within the entire EU, writes the government in a press release.
"Those affected by violence should easily be able to get society's help and support. Through an EU-harmonized phone number and new chat functions, we increase those opportunities," says Minister for Gender Equality and Labor Nina Larsson (L).
In Sweden, the phone number is connected to the Women's Helpline. The old phone number will remain in use until calls to it cease, which is expected to take several years.
