The decision on Israel's participation in Eurovision will be made at a meeting of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in December. Austria, which is hosting next year's contest, is hoping for a compromise on the issue.

Roland Weissmann, CEO of Austrian broadcaster ORF, says he is "carrying out intensive work" to convince his foreign counterparts to come to Vienna in May to take part in the competition.

"Honestly, it's time for diplomacy," he told reporters at a press update on the event.

Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, Iceland and the Netherlands have threatened to boycott the 2026 edition of the world's largest televised live music event unless Israel is prevented from participating due to the war in Gaza.

Other countries such as Belgium and Finland have also considered a boycott, while Denmark has announced the opposite. Denmark will also not vote against Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. SVT has not announced its position.
