Entries for the final in Bangkok on November 14 will be selected through national finals. The first country to make its selection, on August 11, is Bhutan, while Bangladesh will choose its representative last, on September 30. However, more dates will be added, according to the EBU.
A total of ten countries will participate: Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.
The expansion into Asia is the EBU's first initiative to involve several countries on a continent other than Europe.
Four years ago, the Eurovision concept was launched in the United States as the American Song Contest, but the programme only had one season.
