Djurgården, Häcken and Elfsborg have all taken another step towards European games this autumn.
All three teams won their first matches in the second qualifying round, and are in a dream position ahead of the return leg.
It was a successful evening for Swedish teams in the second round of European qualifying. All three teams won their matches. Some more convincingly than others.
Häcken didn't falter, and won convincingly against F91 Dudelange from Luxembourg in the qualifying round for the Conference League. Already after the first half, the team from Hisingen had scored four goals, and in the second half they scored two more.
The final score was 6–2, and ahead of the return match at Bravida Arena in Sweden, Häcken is in the driver's seat.
Djurgården also took a comfortable win against Luxembourgish opposition in the same qualifying round. Gustav Wikheim opened "the blue stripes'" goal account for the day, before Deniz Hümmet extended the lead both once and twice. Djurgården won at home at Tele2 Arena with 3–0, and are also leading by three goals ahead of the return leg.
Elfsborg also managed, after many twists and turns, to snatch victory in the Europa League qualifying round.
The team faced tough opposition in Moldovan FC Sheriff Tiraspol – which only three years ago played Champions League group stage and beat Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The match in Moldova was a chanceless one, but in the final stages, Borås was awarded a penalty which Simon Hedlund converted. Elfsborg won 1–0 away.
All return matches will be played next week.
