European leaders held another meeting on Tuesday about the war in Ukraine.

During the meeting, Ukraine, peace efforts and security guarantees were discussed, writes Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) on X.

"Ensuring Ukraine's security, both in the short and long term, is crucial to achieving a good peace," he writes, adding that work is progressing slowly.

"It is now up to Russia to show through its actions whether the country is ready to seriously engage in ending the war," Kristersson writes further.

The meeting is part of ongoing negotiations that have been going on since November, with the goal of ending the war.

"We are pushing the peace process forward. Now openness and honesty are required from everyone – including Russia," writes German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on X.

On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and negotiators from Kyiv spoke by phone with US envoy Steve Witkoff. This was after Zelenskyy spoke with US President Donald Trump and also with European leaders.

Ukraine's partners in the so-called "coalition of the willing" are expected to hold another meeting on January 3 in Ukraine, followed by a summit within the same coalition on January 6 in France, Zelenskyy stated in a post on X.
