This spring it was decided that the number of teams in the women's tournament in the Olympics will be increased from 12 to 16 and now it is clear that Europe will receive one of the extra places.
Europe previously had three places, but now gets four. For the last Olympics, in Paris 2024, which the Swedish national team missed, there were only two places to fight for because France received a free spot as the host nation.
The distribution of the other 12 places in Olympic football in Los Angeles: North and Central America 3, South America 2.5, Asia 2.5, Africa 2, Oceania 1 and one place for the host country, the USA.
