Although Donohoe ran for and was re-elected for another term as chairman as recently as this summer, he is now moving to a director's job in Washington.
"The World Bank's mission is to end extreme poverty and strengthen shared prosperity on a livable planet. I want to make a difference in this work," he writes in a press release .
Donohoe is also leaving his position as Irish Finance Minister. He has led the work of the Eurogroup, as chairman of the meeting of the finance ministers of the eurozone countries, since 2020. It will now be up to the ministers to decide who will take over from Donohoe.
