The statement comes at the EU Commission's lunch briefing in Brussels on Thursday and is the first official response to Trump's statement on Wednesday about "taking over Gaza".
The EU fully supports the two-state solution, which we believe is the only way to achieve a sustainable peace for both Israelis and Palestinians. Gaza is an essential part of a future Palestinian state, says Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anouar El Anouni.
Both Israelis and Palestinians deserve peace. Now we need to see the next step to achieve a permanent end to hostilities, says the spokesperson.
Neither the EU's Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas nor the EU Commission's President Ursula von der Leyen has so far commented on Trump's claims, including moving the population of Gaza.
